How To Troubleshoot Video Loss on Recorder

Hey Everyone, Techvision is happy to share with you another guide covering the topic “How To Troubleshoot Video Loss on Recorder”. Video loss can occur for a multitude of reasons on either a DVR or NVR and might mean different things to different people. The type of video loss we’re referring to is not the loss of a single camera, but rather if your local display is not showing any information from the recorder at all. This includes the mouse cursor, menus, the grid, anything. If you don’t have a video-display on your recorder’s local monitor at all, follow the steps in this guide and watch the included video for a Walk Through.

How To Troubleshoot Video Loss on Recorder Steps:

  • Check if the DVR/NVR is on-
For as many reasons as there are stars in the sky, your recorder might have been powered down. Check if it is on, and fi it is plugged in. Observe if the outlet its getting power from is working.
  • Check if Monitor is on –
Just like the recorder may have shut down for many possible reasons, the monitor itself could be off. Check if it is plugged in as well.
  • Check if the monitor is plugged in, and set to the right input-
Make sure the video cable you use to connect to the monitor from the recorder is firmly plugged in at both ports. Additionally, make sure the monitor itself is set to the correct input. some monitors have more than one HDMI port and might need to be manually set to accept the signal from any given port.
  • Restart Recorder –
Did you try turning it on and off again? After checking for obvious physical issues like power and cabling, restart the recorder and see if you get your video signal to come back.
  • Test monitor and cable for functionality on a computer-
The recorder or the monitor might be having an actual problem and it’s time to test the monitor itself out to eliminate this possibility. Move both the monitor and its cable to a PC or HDMI output device like another recorder that you know is working. If the monitor functions, we know the cable and monitor are fine. if it doesnt, try another cable first to see if this is the culprit. If a new cable still doesn’t resolve then you likely have a bad monitor.
  • Check Resolution Settings on Web interface –
If the monitor and cable are working, it may be that your recorder is set to an improper resolution. Connect a pc and your recorder to the same network. Access the recorder’s web interface and then make sure its resolution matches your monitor.
